As well as providing operational support to the main supply chain management processes implemented by manufacturing companies, the installation of the COMPASS system for the planning, scheduling and execution (MES) of production and purchasing activities allows to achieve careful and accurate control and supervision of such processes.
The planning processes is highly inter-functional. Company functions that are normally involved include at least: Production, Purchasing, Design & Engineering Office, plus Logistics and Sales. Often, "overall process performance" does not coincide with the sum of the optimal performances of individual functions (for example, achieving high service level can penalise the efficiency of production resources).
COMPASS supports the implementation of planning models that are able to direct the company supply chain behaviours towards the achievement of optimal overall performance levels and provides managers with the control instruments they need to assess the degree of achievement of target performance levels.
